As I attempt to get into a “workflow” this morning afternoon I keep thinking about our local fireworks stands being nearly sold out over the 4th of July weekend! Gauging by the empty shelves (as well as my own impulsiveness) it would appear many Americans overspent. It is certainly understandable given our pent-up demand to celebrate our freedom after such a prolonged period of isolation. So, why bring up firework sales? Because, it seems, American’s flush with cash (at the expense of our Federal deficit) celebrated our independence by giving that money back to Chinese firework manufacturers!
It illustrates that the economy is shifting. After years of easy money, we might finally be getting inflation. As the economy shifts, so to should our portfolios.
Often, I’m reminded of the simple story “Who Moved My Cheese?”. If you’d like a movie version click here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOUeHPS8A8gWho Moved My CheeseCheese is a metaphor for what you desire and have dream of it. Are you more like HEM or HAW?www.youtube.com
We can’t control the markets (and trying to time the market is too risky) but we can try to reduce our risks, increase our diversification, and understand what we own and why. Look to add or maintain your exposure to the financial sector during this phase of the market cycle.
Don’t be like Hem and Haw in “Who Moved My Cheese”. The Cheese will move. Anticipate it, watch it, and move with the cheese.
